POSH Bites
POSH Bites
The POSH Bites project will give young people the chance to make eco-friendly films and spread the word about energy efficiency.
Organisation behind the project
St Helens-based Youth Focus North West is a community group which works to improve the lives of young people across the region, giving them opportunities to learn, develop and have a voice. Their team of professional youth workers work with around 2,000 young people every year, providing advice, guidance and training.
Background and detailed description of the project
This project will bring together groups of young people from across the region who are interested in protecting the environment and helping people use energy more efficiently.
Building on an existing scheme known as POSH (Pioneers of Sustainable Hope), the project will bring together groups of at least three young people from the 11 North West local authority areas.
With the help of a £14,659 grant from our fund, the aim of the project is to produce and promote a series of short films (sound bites) which share advice about how households can reduce their energy use, cut their household bills and minimise their environmental impact.
Research carried out by Youth Focus North West shows that although climate change is a big concern for young people, they do not receive enough green education. One of the aims of the POSH Bites project is to better educate young people on climate change issues and how to save energy.
Working together, and with support from a youth worker, the young people will develop a brand for POSH Bites and work with experts to explore energy efficiency issues, conduct a mapping exercise of energy usage in their local area and explore the changes they can make themselves to reduce their own carbon footprint.
The project will produce 11 sound bites which promote energy efficiency to young people in an effective and engaging way.
The soundbites will be published on You Tube, the Youth Focus website and promoted on Instagram and Twitter. They will also be shown at the group’s regional AGM in September 2020 to over 100 young people and other guests from energy companies and experts in sustainability.
Project partners
Youth Focus NW will coordinate the POSH Bites project and through their youth council will engage with young people from 11 local authorities: Blackburn, Blackpool, Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside and Wigan.
