Appliances and equipment

Appliances and equipment in the workplace can be a huge source of energy use.

By managing your appliances carefully you can significantly reduce the amount of energy they consume, lower your energy bills and reduce your carbon emissions.

  • When buying new equipment for the workplace, only buy appliances with a high energy efficiency rating
  • Keep your equipment well maintained to prolong its life
  • Turn appliances off if they are not in use. This will keep them cooler and therefore reduce the need for ventilation and cooling
  • Enable any energy-saving features such as standby mode
  • Encourage/educate employees to take responsibility for equipment under their control – ie turn it off.
