Smart Street

Introducing the Smart Street project

Our Smart Street project trialled innovative voltage control techniques to enable our networks and customers’ appliances to perform more efficiently and make it easier to adopt low carbon technologies onto the electricity network.

Following an £18 million allowance from our energy regulator, Ofgem, our Smart Street project is set to deliver lower electricity bills for thousands of our customers and significantly help to reduce carbon emissions across our region.

Using innovative voltage control technology, Smart Street will enable our networks and customers’ appliances to perform more efficiently and make it easier for low carbon technologies to connect to the electricity network in the future.

This is a pioneering approach which will help the UK achieve its carbon neutral target by 2050. Up to 45,000 customers, including some in areas with high levels of fuel poverty, are set to benefit from the rollout of the project which starts in 2020. For further information, please see our press release.
